Ben Chilwell has revealed what former Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez said to him after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over the Foxes.

Leicester took the lead early on after Jamie Vardy was sent clean through by an exquisite outside-of-the-boot pass by Harvey Barnes.

However, City hit back in emphatic fashion, as Mahrez got them back on level terms before Ilkay Gundogan put the hosts in front from the spot.

24 minutes into the second-half, Gabriel Jesus ensured that there was no way back for Leicester, and City never really lost control of the game thereafter.

Chilwell and Ricardo Pereira had perhaps their worst displays of the season, thanks to a Mahrez masterclass and of course, another world-class performance from Raheem Sterling.

As it turns out, to make the Leicester full-backs suffer is what the plan always was.

"“I spoke to Riyad after the game and he said that was part of their gameplan, trying to get the wingers one-v-one,” Chilwell told Sky Sports.“It’s very difficult when they overload the wide areas, especially with the wingers they’ve got it makes it a very challenging game for us as full-backs, especially when it’s for 90 minutes.“Like I said it was a tough game for us, we tried to keep ourselves in the game for as long as possible but when they’ve got such quality and they’re clinical as well it makes it very difficult.”"

You have just got to sit back and applaud Pep Guardiola’s side. They were irresistible and there is no way Leicester were going to be able to stop them.

There is no shame in losing to a better team either. On paper, their individual quality exceeds that of Leicester. If anything, Brendan Rodgers can still take pride in the way Leicester started the game and build on that.

Let us not forget that Leicester are still second on the table, a position that none of us thought they could be in. There’s a lot to fight for this season, so it is important to not overreact, accept the defeat and move on.
