There was some worrying news for Leicester City before the Carabao Cup semi-final versus Aston Villa, with the update that a star player will undergo surgery.

While Leicester City surpass expectations in second place in the Premier League, enter the Fourth Round of the FA Cup and have Wembley in their sights in the League Cup, it is not all good news on Filbert Way.

Before the Aston Villa Carabao Cup semi-final Brendan Rodgers divulged the information, reported by Squawka among other outlets, that star midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will undergo surgery. The injury was apparently caused by a “knock in training”.

They also say Rodgers described the procedure as a small operation. Whilst that is reassuring, it is concerning that this is happening to arguably the Foxes’ most important player. Others may underrate him, yet the Nigeria international is an absolute lynchpin for Leicester City.

Stats

It is incredible that Ndidi has been able to step into N’golo Kante’s shoes so to speak – some believe the Nigerian is on course to be greater than the Frenchman. That would be some feat.

However, this season the former has bettered his Chelsea counterpart in two categories: for interceptions and tackles, Ndidi led all three top European divisions.

Replacements

With Ndidi thought to be sidelined until February, this is very unfortunate for the Foxes. Not disastrous but prospectively damaging to hopes of attaining the accolade of runners-up to Liverpool this campaign.
