Arsenal are targeting Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, according to The Sun.

Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on bringing him to the Emirates Stadium; however, it is going to take a club-record sum, possibly close to £100 million.

Now that’s an amount that even Maddison would feel that he’s not worth, but the pace he has progressed at, it is hard to think that he would not be worth even more very soon.

At present, though, will the Gunners pay that much? Will they want to invest as much in a young player? There’s multiple ways of looking at it.

But having said all of that, those close to Maddison believe that an offer is still unlikely to come anytime soon and a deal – if any – will only go through in the summer.

Speaking of deals, Maddison’s entourage, reportedly, insist that that the 22-year old is not close to signing a new deal at Leicester. He wants to wait till the end of the season to take a decision.

Well, imagine the scenes when Maddison has not a signed a new contract and Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal et al are all coming in with bid after bid. Leicester Twitter could explode.

The club are confident, though, that the former Norwich City midfielder will sign a contract extension – that is according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.
