Wilfred Ndidi won’t be playing for Leicester this time next year
Next season three of Leicester City’s players could miss up to six matches for the first team. This is due to the African Cup of Nations competition.
Wilfred Ndidi is vital in the middle for Leicester City – no one can dispute this statement. The statistics back it up and fans, experts, coaches and professionals surely all agree. Therefore the minor surgery he has undergone was a worrying time for Foxes.
Luckily Leicester have the combative Hamza Choudhury to step in for the injured Nigerian tackling supremo. Choudhury now has a chance to cement his position from loveable, cult, fringe player to established starter.
Wilfred Ndidi’s crucial for Leicester City
Though that feat will not be easy at all: along with former Leicester City player N’golo Kante, Ndidi is now considered an eminent figure in the defensive-minded midfielder category worldwide. In which case the Leicester academy graduate has a monumental task on his hands in providing cover for the 23-year-old.
In 2019/20, at times, the Lagos native has topped not just the interceptions but tackling section simultaneously for the entire top-five divisions in Europe. Making Ndidi a statistical monster; as well as a potent target for all elite European clubs.
According to Leicester Mercury, when Ndidi starts for Brendan Rodgers’ team they have a points gained score of 1.48. However, when he doesn’t begin a match, the King Power club average only one point per game. This clearly outlines his importance.
AFCON
Unfortunately for the Foxes, they stand to lose the defensive-midfield man again for up to six domestic contests next year, when Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations campaign begins. Fellow compatriot Kelechi Iheanacho is also likely to be involved with the Super Eagles.
Additionally, Daniel Amartey is a Ghana regular and expected to play international football between 9 January and 6 February 2021, too. Meaning he’ll also be absent this time next year.
