Dennis Praet shows his class for Leicester
With a distinct lack of quality on display from some players on both sides, Dennis Praet was outstanding for Leicester City against Brentford.
For a good five minutes after the Brentford versus Leicester City match, my dad and myself rewound and discussed the wonderfully deft key pass from Dennis Praet to James Justin, from multiple angles. When Justin received the ball, he also played a first-time, slightly lifted cross for Kelechi Iheanacho.
It was on a plate for the Nigerian, who duly dispatched the slotted, across-the-face assist. Justin impressed all game. Why we watched the Praet pass a few times and analysed it so, was because it was a thing of beauty. They don’t always have to lead to a goal, although it helps.
Incidentally it was the sole goal and therefore the match winner. That does much justice to the Belgian’s vision, technique and world-class execution of a finely balanced through ball. In a contest that lacked quality from both sides occasionally, the Belgium international was outstanding.
Praet’s movement, assimilation to a poorer pitch standard whilst maintainimg finesse, effort, astuteness and all-around ability was too much for the Bees. Veteran left-back Christian Fuchs was especially standout for the Foxes, as well.
Praet’s Leicester City stats
Praet wasn’t as statistically amazing as you’d expect, though his stats are still impressive. He was an attacking threat all contest with three shots, said slide rule pass. Not to mention managing an 83.1 per cent rate in a competitive, busy midfield.
Additionally, the former Sampdoria player chipped in with some decent defensive work: three tackles, two interceptions along with a clearance and winning aerial duels, per WhoScored.
Yes, it was only a clash against Championship opposition – but Praet almost lowered himself and still shone. Indeed, he is technically a back-up to Youri Tielemans and James Maddison, though his recent form in the Premier League also showed his pedigree and scoring threat. The aforementioned midfield duo will be at least kept on their toes – definitely a good thing. Assets galore at Leicester.
