Jesse Lingard is still being linked with a move to Leicester City, would he improve the Foxes?

Leicester City’s midfield is a well devised thing of beauty: Wilfred Ndidi, who is more than an interceptor; when Youri Tielemans is on form he is almost unplayable; then there is the special talent that is James Maddison. A trio that, if stays united, could be unparalleled globally.

Transfer window

This transfer window there hasn’t even been much legitimate speculation about the Foxes signing a much-needed winger, let alone a central midfielder.

Boss Brendan Rodgers unusually confirmed the want for another centre-back at King Power Stadium. Although, that was pretty much due to attracting another club for Filip Benkovic to join on loan.

The Croatian defender has failed to make a decent impression on Rodgers, in terms of his suitability for the first team, or he’d be staying and playing. For the manager to state it in a pre-match press conference for an FA Cup match, is as clear as it gets.

Although the Leicester gaffer also said Benkovic will not go anywhere if the East Midlanders don’t sign a new player for that spot. It appears that the Northern Irishman is content with his wingers, Ayoze Perez as well as Harvey Barnes. Whose outputs have been satisfactory.

Yet the Blue Army still craves an incoming transfer, preferably a notable wingman. One man who doesn’t fit the bill is Manchester United occasional wideman, Jesse Lingard. Leicester Mercury report that the deal is currently a favourite with bookies.

Suitability for Leicester City

While Lingard would improve the Leicester roster slightly, with regards to status as an understudy for the aforementioned trio in the centre – he is a proven flop in the last couple of years as a forward-thinking attacker or on the wing.

Statistically, when investigating the previous two Red Devils Premier League campaigns, Lingard hasn’t even earned a place in their squad. Even with extra cash for the Foxes, a swap agreement involving James Maddison would be an absolute disaster for Leicester.

Though, spending the minimum amount on Lingard as a back-up creative midfielder isn’t the worst option out there. Think back to how Gareth Southgate extracted the best from the 27-year-old, in a more central role for England at the World Cup. But Foxes of Leicester does not see it as a likely or feasible switch in January. Especially as Maddison is supposedly not for sale.
