After Aston Villa defeated Leicester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final, there was a pitch invasion and possibly an altercation between fans and players.

It was a sad evening for Leicester City fans around the world on Wednesday, which split over into Thursday. Aston Villa beat the Foxes 3-2 on aggregate in their Carabao Cup semi-final clash. Only in the final minutes was a rather unfair winner secured for the ecstatic Villains along with their supporters.

Villa Captain Jack Grealish set-up forward-thinking left-back Matt Targett for the opener – making the overall scoreline 2-1 – before Kelechi Iheanacho again scored against the Claret and Blues. After excellent wing work from Foxes academy graduate, Harvey Barnes.

Despite being in the ascendancy – winning tackles, taking more shots and generally dictating play – it wasn’t to be for Leicester. Trezeguet finished at the back post in the dying minutes to conclude the tie 3-2. Dean Smith’s side go to Wembley.

Aftermath, Leicester City altercation

Following the defeat there was a pitch invasion, as well as a possible fracas between Villa fans and Leicester City players. At the end of the game the usual, instantly recognizable burly bodyguard of the King Power club looked physically and emotionally bothered as he herded staff and personnel down the Villa Park tunnel.

But it has been revealed by the i, that Jamie Vardy and James Maddison may have been assaulted or at least unfairly provoked by a small, ignorant section of the Birmingham team’s faithful. It also appeared that some Leicester fans tussled with stewards.

According to the outlet, Maddison was ‘pushed on the back of the head’; not to mention Jamie Vardy being ‘goaded’ by unwanted invaders. The police and English Football Association are supposedly investigating.
