Manchester United have dropped their interest in Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, as reported by the Daily Star.

Apparently, the no.10 is edging closer to signing a new deal at the King Power Stadium, which would mean an immediate increase in his price and increased difficulties in getting a deal over the line for any of his suitors.

If true, then this is great news for all Leicester fans. The club has been trying to negotiate an improved deal with him for a long period to little avail.

So if there has been a breakthrough, then that puts the Foxes into a really strong position for the summer as they can strengthen further without having to worry about holding on to their star players.

Knowing the transfer market, though, it can all change very quickly and there is always a chance of one or the other club making matters worse.

United only being one the clubs interested in Maddison, we cannot rule any offers from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, who are all in need of additions, especially the Gunners.

Nonetheless, tying down Maddison will substantially reduce the possibility of him leaving the club – and that’s Leicester can do on their part, really.

You can never entirely rule out a departure till the time the window’s open. The club just has to do what it can and while it can.
