Leicester City have made their first move to sign Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana, according to Sky Sports.

It is reported that the Reds have given Lallana the permission to speak to other clubs, having made it very clear that the European champions are not planning to offer him a new contract.

Now then, how many reports can we possibly rebuff as “sheer lies”? Normally, when Sky reports it, there is some percentage of truth in it. And the rumours do make sense anyway because Lallana is someone who we know Brendan Rodgers is fond of.

Speaking as recently as last week, here’s what the Leicester boss had to say about him:

"“He’s a fantastic player,” said Rodgers.”I’ve been aware of his talent since he was a young player. He has done brilliantly there and I’m sure he is weighing up his options, but we don’t need to speak about it now. He’s a top-class player.”"

For those of you who have forgotten, it is Rodgers who brought Lallana to Liverpool in 2014 from Southampton.

Given that UEFA Champions League qualification could be a decisive factor, Leicester would have another advantage over other interested clubs, namely Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, seeing as none of those three look like securing a top four finish whereas Leicester do.

All things considered, Lallana would be a decent addition to this squad. Rodgers knows him from their time before, so you would think he also knows how to bring the best out of him.

Next. Leicester should sign Emi Buendia or Todd Cantwell in summer. dark

If it works, it is a nail hit right on the head, if it does not, he would have most likely been signed for free anyway. Yes, Leicester would have to bear his relatively higher wages and may find that to be an issue if and when they want to move on but let us not talk about it for now.
