Brendan Rodgers to have contract talks with Christian Fuchs
Brendan Rodgers is set to have contract talks with Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs, according to The Telegraph.
The 33-year old is in the final year of his current deal, at the end of which he plans to go the United States of America to pursue his NFL dream and, of course, to take care of his eSports arena.
So this is not as straightforward as Rodgers asking Fuchs to stay and him simply agreeing. It has been clear for a while that he would be leaving at the end of the season. He has his family in New York, too, so there is another factor that could play a role.
For those of you wondering why does Rodgers want a soon-to-be 34 years old defender, well, if you saw him in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, you would know why.
The Austrian has been one of Leicester’s most consistent players since he came from Schalke on a free transfer. He was monumental in the 2015/16 title win and has continued to be dependable in the subsequent campaigns as well.
When he only appeared eight times the previous season, one could sense that his time at the King Power Stadium was very much up.
However, Rodgers has brought him back to life again. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which, importantly, have come in the Premier League.
Certainly, Rodgers has seen something that has convinced him to go ahead and see if he can make Fuchs for another year. Truth be told, Leicester can only benefit from it.
