Statistics and analysis outlet FiveThirtyEight has predicted a third-place finish in the Premier League for Leicester City despite their recent struggles.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have been, at least results wise, among the worst teams in the top division since Manchester City battered them at the Etihad Stadium in December.

They have managed just three wins in just over two months, having lost six and drawn two in that time. To put it very precisely, the Foxes have 11 points in their last 11. Hardly the form of a team competing for a place in the UEFA Champions League, right?

FiveThirtyEight’s calculations point towards something else, though. Their supercomputer reckons Leicester have a 92% chance of finishing in the top four and has predicted them to end the season at third with 66 points and a goal difference of over 30.

It means they will take 16 points from the remaining ten fixtures, reflecting again the inability of the Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur to catch up, not necessarily a surge in form from Leicester.

Liverpool, meanwhile, take the title, with City finishing runners-up and Chelsea taking the final UCL place. Condemned to relegation are AFC Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City.

Here’s the PL table in full:

  1. Liverpool (104 points)
  2. Manchester City (83 points)
  3. Leicester City (66 points)
  4. Chelsea (63 points)
  5. Manchester United (60 points)
