James Justin now a definite threat to Ben Chilwell

James Justin had primarily been bought as an understudy to Ricardo Pereira; however, against Aston Villa, upon being given a chance at left-back in only his second Premier League start, he was excellent, exceptional and egregiously good. The defensive work will take its time but going forward, he was everything that any manager would want in his full-back.

He constantly marauded the final third, overlapping the sensational Harvey Barnes – who bagged a brace himself – and left an impact that is going to make Ben Chilwell ask questions of himself.

Yes, one or two good performances do not a top player make but given the way the England international has been exposed regularly this season, a run of games for Justin could very soon make him Rodgers’ first choice.

"“JJ was brilliant,” said Rodgers. “For a young player who has been in League Two and League One, he comes here where there are two top full-backs playing in front of him, but he continues to train and work, and when he has been asked to play in the cup games, at West Ham, and then tonight, I thought he was outstanding. “It’s just his running ability, he’s our best full-back in the club at running without the ball. He runs, he breaks lines, he’s got great speed, but he’s also a very good defender. “I thought he was absolutely outstanding in his performance and I’m pleased for him.”"
