Danny Drinkwater faces absolute turmoil in his career after yet another shocking incident. What is next for the former Leicester City champion?

It was no surprise that Danny Drinkwater’s move to Chelsea was a complete disaster. At the time, this writer was monitoring the situation on Sky Sports; many Leicester City supporters couldn’t believe the transfer was happening. Especially as the window’s duration was elapsing fast.

Drinkwater sat outside the Blues’ training ground, allegedly for a few hours, they wanted another signing – Ross Barkley, before securing him – but settled for the ex-Fox. Alas, “Drinky” signed at the final hour, and never made any lasting impression for the London outfit. Soon becoming part of the stable of loanees and forgotten men.

Former Leicester City man’s career in tatters

The rise of the Manchester-born player is almost as swift and movie worthy as Jamie Vardy’s, or any of the Premier League title-winning team. They were not a bunch of misfits by any stretch: quality journeymen, promising youth and a mixture of gems plucked from obscurity. Who together – as long as N’golo Kante was involved – formed a formidable side.

Upon leaving for the Pensioners, Drinkwater wasn’t expected to make many waves there by all observers – even their fans. Ultimately that’s exactly what happened. Two managers have made no secret of the midfielder ‘being no part of their plans’.

Before he went south, the player was capped by England. But after the manager declined to use his athlete at Euro 2016, Drinkwater seemed to snub England calls due to quickly ending injuries. That was how FoL perceived the scenario anyway; if true this is revealing of his personality, too. Drinkwater was known as a dour, moody fellow by many Leicester acquaintances’ accounts.

Whilst with Burnley the onetime Manchester United trainee was beaten badly at a nightclub. My advice is simply take yourself out of the equation: don’t go to those establishments if things like that happen to you, as an elite professional. Although, he cannot be blamed for being set upon – and talking to someone’s girlfriend is not an excuse for violent reprisal.

Sean Dyche is a good measure for gauging someone’s commitment though: Drinkwater wasn’t wanted there either, when this happens at a club like Burnley – effort will be questioned. If he moved away for money at first, then every other element backfired in his career.

Current status

There was no place or role for the 30-year-old at Stamford Bridge once more; he was promptly shipped out to Aston Villa in another doomed switch. His performances lacked dynamism and his fitness seemed low when appearing for the Villans. While he did play more often than elsewhere.

However, on Wednesday Daily Mail reported that Drinkwater was involved in a shocking practice pitch incident with a team-mate: Jota was said to be headbutted in the attack. Unsurprisingly the former now faces a hefty fine and termination of his Villa deal.

light. Trending. James Justin deserves place in team regardless of Ben Chilwell status

But when do these examples of behaviour become indicative of a severe problem. Is it the time apparent to say: hold on a moment, this club legend – all champions are – may have mental health or anger management issues and needs an intervention, help from his parent club or family and friends. Let’s hope he gets it.
