Chelsea have ended their interest in Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell – that’s according to Spanish outlet SPORT.

It comes as a result of Leicester’s £85 million-demand for the 23-year old, a price that the Blues deem too high by any standards. Understandably so.

Leicester fans themselves would agree that the England international is not worth that much; however, we can be happy that at least for now, he is staying put. That’s what we wanted anyway.

Is it what Brendan Rodgers wants, though? That is hard to tell because in his first season in charge, Chilwell has barely done anything of note – except being given a tough time by Riyad Mahrez in particular. Under a manager who is on record as a Kieran Tierney fan, that’s asking for trouble.

So it can be said that Chilwell’s future is very uncertain for now. He has not been anyway near his best for a majority of the season, being regularly exposed by anyone half-good.

To his dismay, James Justin has not wasted a single chance, proving himself to be good enough for a step up – if it does come to that.

It must also be taken into account that no one knows what Chilwell wants. Does he want to stay? Does he want to leave for bigger and better things?

We do know there’s a player in there. He knows it. Other clubs definitely know it as well. Question is, who wants what, because there has been no clarity either from the club’s end or the player’s end.

Expect this to drag on.
