Christian Fuchs relaxed about contract extension
Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs is relaxed about his contract situation at the club.
The 33-year old is in the final year of his current deal, at the end of which he plans to go the United States of America to pursue his NFL dream and, of course, to take care of his eSports arena.
But with Brendan Rodgers quite clearly stating that he wants the Austrian to stay and European football very much a possibility, it might just be that he extends his deal by another year.
If his words are anything to go by, then it does seem like he is not done at Leicester yet.
"“If Leicester are in the Champions League next season, you need a big squad, so it’s difficult to reduce it,” he is is quoted as saying by Austrian outlet APA.“And Rodgers said to me that he really wanted to keep me and we will definitely be able to work something out, so I am relaxed about that.”"
For those of you wondering why does Rodgers want a soon-to-be 34 years old defender, well, if you saw him in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, you would know why.
The full-back has been one of Leicester’s most consistent players since he came from Schalke on a free transfer. He was monumental in the 2015/16 title win and has continued to be dependable in the subsequent campaigns as well.
When he only appeared eight times the previous season, one could sense that his time at the King Power Stadium was very much up.
However, Rodgers has brought him back to life again. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which, importantly, have come in the Premier League.
Certainly, Rodgers has seen something that has convinced him to go ahead and make Fuchs stay. Truth be told, Leicester can only benefit from it.
