Manchester United reportedly give up on James Maddison pursuit
Manchester United are set to give up on their pursuit of Leicester City’s James Maddison, according to 90min.
The Red Devils are expecting the 23-year old to sign a new contract with the club pretty soon, which would in all likeliness mean a price surge and increased difficulties in getting a deal over the line.
The Express, however, recently reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and company are going to do everything possible to get Maddison.
As contradictory as all these rumours are, though, Leicester’s stance remains the same: they do not want to sell.
Any encouragement United have had could have been derived from the fact that Maddison hasn’t signed a new contract at the King Power Stadium yet. It has obviously become a major cause for worry with the time running up.
Bear in mind that no matter what the papers say, until Maddison has actually signed a new contract, clubs will not be easily put off.
Those close to the player himself, reports the Manchester Evening News, suggest that he “would have been at United years ago” if he had his way. If it is true, then it is telling and could prove to be a defining factor some time from now.
If he really wants the move, then there is no way that any offer from Leicester would be convincing enough for him. Whatever the end result, the Foxes need to be quick and smart.
Maddison is the kind of the player that you build a side around. Losing him would be huge.
