Leicester City have been joined by Newcastle United in the chase for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, as per multiple sources.

The 22-year old, who is priced at £30 million, is also a target for Arsenal and Everton, reports the Mirror, and it is not hard to understand why.

Signed by current Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers in 2018 from Paris-Saint Germain, Edouard has scored 60 goals and 31 assists in 126 appearances during his time in Glasgow.

That is a mighty good record for a player of his age and does fall in line with what Rodgers would want in a long-term replacement for Jamie Vardy.

Given that Rodgers has worked with Edouard before, the Frenchman’s first preference might be Leicester.

The fact that the Foxes may also have UEFA Champions League football to lure him with could be another big factor.

This is a good time to bring in Vardy’s long-term successor. As well as the 33-year old is going, we have to realise that he is bound to slow down in the coming years.

Seeing how heavily-reliant Leicester are on him for their goals, it will be wise to start preparing for life after him right away.

Kelechi Iheanacho is the other recognised centre-forward at the club; however, if Leicester are in Europe next season – and there is a good chance they will be – then just two strikers might not be enough anyway.

Price-wise, too, Edouard is not that costly. £30 million for a talented 22-year old is pretty much the standard these days. Not that Leicester cannot afford it.
