Leicester City have held talks with Real Betis’ William Carvalho, according to Coliseo Verdi Blanco.

The report states that the 27-year old is in a “good position” to move to the King Power Stadium, and with no others clubs currently interested in the £18 million man, Leicester’s way is clear.

This will be a really good signing for the Foxes if they do manage to make it. Carvalho’s potential is no secret and he will undoubtedly add a lot to the Leicester midfield.

He would obviously not be an automatic starter because of Wilfred Ndidi, but he does bring the much needed “depth” that Brendan Rodgers recently spoke of as far as the defensive midfield is concerned.

Apart from the Nigerian, Leicester only have Hamza Choudhury as an option for that position.

While he is a beast himself and has improved over the last two seasons, he still has a long way to go before he is a regular starter. Choudhury would also benefit from learning his trade from two of the very best defensive midfielders in Europe.

And with European football an inevitability if the Premier League season is finished, at least three options in a position as important as this is a must.

You cannot go into the UEFA Champions League with any kind of aspirations if you only have two recognised defensive midfielders, one of which is not even used to being a starter.

Next. Finishing the season would make sense, says Gary Lineker. dark

Carvalho’s signing also eases the burden on Ndidi, which hasn’t necessarily been the case since his arrival at the club.
