Christian Fuchs reveals how he inspires Leicester City teammates
Christian Fuchs has revealed that he regularly shows videos of his former Schalke teammate and footballing icon Raul Gonzalez to inspire Leicester City players.
The 33-year old was fortunate enough to have played alongside the Real Madrid legend for two seasons.
Raul scored 40 goals and assisted more than half of that tally in 98 appearances for the German outfit, but it was his gargantuan stature that Fuchs claims to have been “starstruck” by.
Speaking to Goal, the Austrian told how he tries to lift the players by showing them his videos.
"“I regularly show the lads at Leicester videos of Raúl, from when I used to play with him. He was incredible. He wasn’t just a great footballer, he was a gentleman and one of the nicest players I have ever played alongside.“For me, it was simply a dream come true when he joined because he was one of those players who, when I was a kid, seemed like one of the big stars of the game. Then all of a sudden, you have the chance to play alongside him, pass him the ball so that he can score… I think that was the first and last time I was starstruck in football. This person you admired for years before and now you are in the same changing room as him. How much better can it get? So, of course, that was my first impression…”."
Brendan Rodgers would hope to see the left-back do the same – and more – for another year.
Rodgers has quite clearly stated that he wants Fuchs to stay, and with European football very much a possibility, it might just be that he extends his deal by another year.
For those of you wondering why does the Leicester boss want a soon-to-be 34 year-old defender, well, if you saw him in the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, you would know why.
The full-back has been one of Leicester’s most consistent players since he came from Germany on a free transfer. He was monumental in the 2015/16 title win and has continued to be dependable in the subsequent campaigns as well.
When he only appeared eight times the previous season, one could sense that his time at the King Power Stadium was very much up.
However, Rodgers has brought him back to life again. He has made 14 appearances in all competitions this season, eight of which, importantly, have come in the Premier League.
Certainly, Rodgers has seen something that has convinced him to go ahead and make Fuchs stay. Truth be told, Leicester can only benefit from it.
