Leicester striker should reject transfer offers
Kelechi Iheanacho has apparently been identified as a legitimate transfer target for this European club. But he is on to a winner at Leicester city.
When Kelechi Iheanacho joined Leicester City there were huge hopes about his future contributions. This writer attended the Nigerian’s first Foxes match versus Borussia Monchengladbach, a friendly in the preseason of 2017/18.
Jamie Vardy bagged a brace in the game, his new strike partner, or rival, set-up the Englishman’s second goal thanks to some deft build-up play. A great arrival for the highly rated £25 million player from Manchester City.
This piece of play accelerated feeling among City fans that the new man may be the type of understudy necessary to push Vardy; Iheanacho could even be someone who can succeed the former England forward at Leicester.
The omen us supporters should have taken more insight from, was the fact that the striker was withdrawn early due to a knock: that was a metaphor for the two years of stumbling that engulfed the Nigeria international’s career on Filbert Way.
Kelechi Iheanacho increases Leicester City profile
As we moved into the start of the 2019/20 campaign, Iheanacho showed glimpses of excellent play and natural goalscoring ability. Something which took him to footballing superpower Man City as a young athlete.
Albeit the 23-year-old wasn’t exactly challenging Vardy for ‘main man’ status, but there was an encouraging increase in impressive displays and eventually, thankfully, finishing. This season he’s managed eight finishes in 18 outings – a fine return for a second choice goalscorer.
Now it is no surprise to hear that Iheanacho has been monitored by sides for a potential move. According to Turkish press Trabzonspor have identified the Fox as a possible transfer option. Although, Foxes of Leicester believe he has a future on Filbert Way: remember his amazing performance against Aston Villa this term, for example.
We must obviously also remember his youthful age: Iheanacho is in the final development stage as an instrumental striker, presently. Though he may not be the first choice at King Power Stadium for the next year or two, there is a distinct possibility an eventuality could witness the Super Eagle’s ascension as Leicester’s No.9.
