A poll has revealed which English football clubs have the best supporters. Unfortunately for Leicester City fans, they’re ranked lower than expected.

Back at their now demolished, beloved former ground, Filbert Street, Leicester City fans were notoriously loud. In fact the smallish but compact old-fashioned, yet modernly convenient stadium was literally comparable with a Formula 1 supercar for noise: when full with supporters who had a decent game to cheer.

Believe this writer, it was certainly as loud as any stadia visited by myself, size compatibly. Happily for may of the faithful, last year it was reported that FS would be redeveloped, most likely as apartments with underground parking facilities. To go alongside the already developed student flats in ‘Filbert Village’.

It’d be a real shame to let a Leicestershire, or Midlands, landmark deteriorate further. Even more car parks aren’t an appropriate use.

Leicester City’s fans ranked

Anyway, back to the reason for the article; since leaving the old home nearly 20 years ago, the Blue Army is not quite as blaring as they used to be. Yes, the new stadium isn’t as tightly packed and there’s undeniably a more family-friendly atmosphere at King Power Stadium.

Though the ‘KP’ can still be electric on matchdays: as witnessed in the “earthquake game”: as Leonardo Ulloa scored a last-minute penalty against Norwich City to decide victory. Afterwards a university team reported a minor earthquake with a 0.3 magnitude – simply derived from the exuberant celebrations.

This is another reason Foxes of Leicester were particularly surprised to see a particularly low ranking for the Foxes’ away support. They aren’t as large as so-called ‘best fans’ groups like Liverpool, Manchester United or Leeds – although Leicester are known for their noise.

Sport Bible recently published results of a questionnaire conducted by quizmaker.com, which ranked every English football team’s away support. Leicester were a shocking 31st on the list. To be fair, if fans are annoyingly supportive of their side, it irks the opposition – opponents voted for their choices here. Get what we’re saying?
