Kelechi Iheanacho is a real Leicester City character

Kelechi Iheanacho is not just Jamie Vardy’s understudy, he’s also an improving, valuable member of the Leicester City squad.

The Leicester City squad isn’t short on big personalities like Kasper Schmeichel, Caglar Soyuncu and Wilfred Ndidi. Then there are jokers like Christian Fuchs and Ben Chilwell.

Along with the apparently loud and brash, such as Jamie Vardy or James Maddison. Though those two are fairly misunderstood at times: Vardy is a quieter, more considered soul away from the game. While Maddison is a very caring person off the field.

Kelechi Iheanacho doesn’t fit into any usual popularity or persona category – he’s quite unique in that respect. Not a renegade or maverick, but his own man. Nigeria’s striker makes his team-mates laugh on occasions when together and in private life or on social media. Some of the looks he gives the camera are brilliantly sitcom-esque.

A joker in the pack is always needed, especially at dark times like a virus outbreak. We witnessed spirits being lifted by silly or humorous video clips on Instagram or Twitter, for example this clip from the Nigerian.

Yet having the capacity to do the type of things Iheanacho did against Aston Villa – an explosively winning performance – go along way to further prove one’s worth to the side.

Whilst on lockdown, the former Manchester City player told LCFC.com he’s been cooking traditional Nigerian food, playing FIFA 20 and spending time with the family. All fairly textbook.

Kelechi Iheanacho’s value to Leicester City

Around a fortnight ago, Foxes of Leicester offered the opinion that Iheanacho is valuable to the Foxes, not just as a back-up but potentially Vardy’s successor. Now, that notion was heavily disputed by some of our followers – but the 23 year-old refined his game nicely this campaign.

Don’t be surprised if Leicester City eventually announce the signing of a significant attacker when Vardy retires; something not expected soon. Though a decent replacement may already be at the club. Hopefully we’ll see Iheanacho and Ndidi dancing in the changing room very soon as the game returns!
