These 6 players are set to leave Leicester
With contracts rapidly expiring as June 30 approaches, eight Leicester City players are entering a limbo scenario. Which ones will be leaving?
Obviously uncertainty swirls around the globe so football is ultimately insignificant. However, certain players – excluding superstars with millions in the bank – are running out of contract time. They need reassurance over their futures with mortgages and bills to pay. There are a few in that position at Leicester City.
This article explains who they are and the situation they’re in.
Papy Mendy
Where to start with Mendy? His diminutive stature and terrier-esque hyperactivity brought comparisons with Leicester City champion N’golo Kante. Though Mendy hasn’t managed to replicate that alien-like work rate successfully; injuries didn’t help, to be fair.
Wilfred Ndidi is one of the eminent defensive-midfielders in the world so a transfer is the Frenchman’s best option. Not to mention boss Brendan Rodgers being unsure if Mendy will remain a Fox, and Hamza Choudhury also ahead in the pecking order.
George Thomas
A former Coventry City youth player, Thomas is age-23 now. Unfortunately he hasn’t managed to break into the first team set-up. Despite two fairly high profile loan moves. Likely to drop down to Championship level.
Eldin Jakupovic
No goalkeeper wants to be third choice at their respective club – even if it is Leicester City! Leicester Mercury states that Rodgers likes three senior stoppers on his roster, therefore the Northern Irishman may have to promote a young ‘keeper.
Ryan Loft
Loft, 22 , is presently on loan at Carlisle United. He was signed from Tottenham Hotspur’s Under-23 side. A switch is on the cards as he hasn’t made the step up to the seniors.
Sam Hughes
Former Chester City defender Hughes is now 22, as well. This campaign the Englishman made 17 appearances in three competitions for Salford City, where he may be best suited.
Andy King
‘Kingy’ will almost certainly depart Filbert Way with an emotion testimonial after years of excellent service. While two other title-winners, Wes Morgan and Christian Fuchs, are expected to sign one year extensions imminently.
