If Leicester City want to sign this promising starlet, they will apparently face tough competition from a giant of the game.

It was only Sunday that Foxes of Leicester wrote a piece about the importance of Jonny Evans to Leicester City in general. Not to mention his easing of Caglar Soyuncu’s transition into an almost overnight Premier League star during this campaign.

Despite being a finely tuned centre-half, Evans will be 33 years-old next January. We saw it with Robert Huth – all good things do, unfortunately, come to an end. Evans cannot remain a starter at elite level for too many more years. Replacements will be monitored and targeted, regardless of how brilliant the partnership was with Soyuncu in 2019/20.

Leicester City target centre-back

The Foxes have been linked with a move for one of manager Brendan Rodgers’ former club’s prized assets in the past. In this week’s news is a recurrence of the speculation linking the King Power side with Celtic’s 22 year-old starlet Kristoffer Ajer.

Ajer is highly regarded in the Scottish Premier League; he won two trebles with Rodgers and the Glasgow outfit. Leicester Mercury suggest the Norwegian could be a Virgil Van Dijk-esque signing.

Additionally the publication also carries the rumour from Italy media that another significant team want the centre-back. Leicester City may not get their man as they face tough competition for their reported transfer target: AC Milan are also, ominously, apparently eyeing up the young defender.

Height is always a great bonus in any squad – and Ajer is a man-mountain at 6 feet, four inches. Though, style-wise, he can still manoeuvre the ball and pick a pass well.

In other news, Monday saw the government announce there will be no competitive sport until June. Meaning that a return for the English top-flight is presently scheduled for that month.
