Philippe Coutinho agent talks transfer: Leicester rumours
The Philippe Coutinho to Leicester City rumour continues, with the player linked to at least two other Premier League clubs. His agent has now spoken, too.
While Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers recently stated that the upcoming transfer market won’t be as busy with no uncapped spending as usual. He believes his Foxes will still conduct some business, though. Planning, virtual scouting – without competitive matches – and information gathering will still be prevalent at Premier League clubs.
However, most people will also understand that the worldwide coronavirus pandemic will obviously have severe implications for global finances and spending. Therefore it is hard to predict what kind of switches will be occurring this off-season.
Some truly monumental valuations or prices are said to have lowered or fallen during these unprecedented times. Teams won’t want to take large gambles, because of uncertainty over recouping fees through selling on, as well as merchandise sales potentially down. Along with no ticket receipts when games return.
Although premiership bosses announced extensions for athletes with expiring contracts would be allowed, in order to help complete 2019/20.
Leicester City linked with superstar
I’m sure all of our Foxes readership is well aware that Bayern Munich’s loanee from Barcelona, Philippe Coutinho, is apparently on Leicester City’s radar. This rumour was confirmed last month by Spanish football expert Guillem Balague. Regular Sky Sports pundit Balague said that the King Power side were the only outfit to have a known interest.
On Friday, Coutinho’s agent Kia Joorabchian told talkSPORT that presently he nor his client have not spoken with any person or club about a transfer for the player. Adding that his client is currently injured; not to mention a move would only materialise when the COVID-19 crisis is over.
Regardless of the speculation connecting the Brazilian with the East Midlanders, a deal is unlikely for several reasons in Foxes of Leicester’s opinion: status, pricetag, wages and, unfortunately, most likely in Coutinho’s eyes – status.
