With transfer rumours heating up and football beginning to return, Leicester City are set to battle a Premier League rival for starlet Gonzalo Plata.

Don’t believe anyone, ‘expert’ or otherwise, if they tell you that no transfer business will be completed this off-season, or during the roundup of remaining fixtures for 2019/20. Whenever the window is, movements will occur – trust Foxes of Leicester!

Many players now have rapidly expiring contracts and will probably not be staying at their current sides. Which indicates a minimal amount of certain switches, even if those prospective captures are eventually free.

For a while now, Leicester have been linked with eyeing Sporting Lisbon’s young wingman Gonzalo Plata. Now the rumour has reemerged due to Watford’s apparent interest in the 19-year-old. If you didn’t know, the Hertfordshire team is managed by former Foxes boss Nigel Pearson.

However, both English top-flight clubs will have to pay a large transfer fee – with Sport Witness carrying a story that Plata has a release clause of €60 million. Apparently the Hornets have offered a quarter of that; an offer that is likely to receive a frosty reception from Sporting. Obviously the Portuguese side know they have a future star on their hands.

To be honest, Leicester City definitely still need to address the right-winger issue: Ayoze Perez is a good professional who did a decent job this campaign, though a specialist attacker on that side is a necessity. Perez is obviously out of position and prefers a central striker role.

Therefore it is unlikely Brendan Rodgers will continue with the Spaniard out-wide next season. A youthful yet internationally experienced winger like Plata may just be a perfect choice. The Foxes have conducted quite a few dealings with teams from Portugal so they could most probably arrange a fair price again.
