After just under a month since the final day of Leicester City’s 2019/20 season, some good news was announced with two players agreeing on new contracts.

Both Nampalys Mendy and James Maddison have signed new contracts at Leicester City ahead of the 2020/21 season. Despite the quiet nature of their business so far this summer, the two announcements will settle any nerves ahead of next season.

There were rumours of a move to Qatar this summer to team up with Xavi and Santi Cazorla at Al-Saad, Mendy has penned a new contract until the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

With a small part of Leicester City fans throwing negative shade towards the news, the contract should be viewed with a more positive frame of mind.

The move is a great example of how the Covid-19 has affected the club. Before the hold-up to last season’s Premier League campaign, both parties would have probably separated once the end of July had come, but with the short-term extension and the possibility of struggling to find a new club, it suits both Mendy and the club.

A perfect back-up to Wilfred Ndidi, Mendy will certainly come in handy in the European games due to his past playing in France. The contract extension means any money the club was going to spend on a new central-midfielder can now be redirected to a higher-priority area of the squad.

The news of Maddison’s contract will be music to the Foxes fans ears. Questions have been asked about the player’s commitment to the club with so-called ‘bigger clubs’ sniffing around. But the new contract will lift the mood within the fanbase and squad going into the start of pre-season.

"Speaking to LCFC.com, Maddison said: “I’m so happy to sign a new contract for this football club.”“I’ve enjoyed every moment since joining Leicester City. The supporters have been incredible to me & we’ve a fantastic set of players in that dressing room who are determined to show what we’re capable of doing together in both Europe & the Premier League next season.”"

Following his move from Norwich City in 2018, Maddison has impressed as a Foxes player and made his England debut in November. His eye-catching performances in Blue has seen him attract interest from Manchester United.

However, after the Red Devils decision to pursue Bruno Fernandes in January and their continued fancy of Jack Grealish, the rumour of a move to Old Trafford began to fall of death ears.

A summer of rumours regarding a new contract at King Power Stadium has concluded with the club announcing on Monday afternoon that the Coventry-born has signed an extension until 2024.

His stats don’t lie. Maddison is highly-regarded at the club due to his quality on the pitch. Last season, over 34 appearances, Maddison made 51 successful dribbles, boasted an 83% pass accuracy and created over 75 chances.

Maddison has made 67 appearances in the Premier League in two years, scoring 13 goals and registering 10 assists. Carrying expected goals of 5.02, the number 10 managed six in the Premier League despite missing the final six games of the season.
