At long last, Leicester City have made a summer signing in 2020. He is yet to be announced as a Fox, but Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne has confirmed the news.

Some Leicester City fans are exclaiming, “but we need a left-back, not another right-back!?”, in response to the signing of versatile Atalanta full-back Timothy Castagne. Well, there are plenty of reasons why that assessment is inaccurate.

First of all, Castagne can and has played on the left side of defence; in fact, he can play as a wingback, too. Or in a more advantage wide midfield role.

Secondly, Ricardo Pereira – the Foxes’ incredibly talented right sided defender who is currently injured – won’t be back until early October.

Then there are the increased amount of particularly difficult matches abroad and at home to play in the Europa League, in the upcoming campaign. Brendan Rodgers will need reinforcements for all positions – quality ones at that! Of course, that’s one element the new man provides as a world-class international.

And most people criticising the athlete before he’s even been announced as a signing, seem to have forgotten that there is still over a month remaining in the transfer window to secure another left-back.

Lastly, the Belgian is a great fit, with compatriots and Red Devils team-mates Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet already influential on Filbert Way.
