Leicester City are being linked with a move for striker Gabriel Barbosa from Brazilian club Flamengo, and not for the first time.

According to ESPN, the Foxes are interested in bringing in the forward to the King Power Stadium, with Brendan Rodgers looking to strengthen his squad ahead of the new Premier League season, which is due to start this weekend.

The report goes on to state that Leicester have already entered talks with the player’s representatives ahead of a potential transfer.

The Flamengo number nine, who more commonly goes by Gabigol, has scored 41 goals in 57 appearances for the Brazilian club, including four in seven outings this term.

Leicester have only made the one signing this transfer window, bringing in left-back Timothy Castagne from Atalanta after the departure of Ben Chilwell to Chelsea, but with the new season fast approaching surely more signings are needed.

The 24-year-old is contracted to Flamengo till 2024 so it will definitely take a hefty fee to bring him away however, judging by his record it might be worth the risk.

Barbosa has been capped 5 times by Brazil scoring twice, and as he edges closer to notching up 100 goals in the top tier of Brazil (84 goals), the potential in this signing is mouth-watering.

With Jamie Vardy obviously entering his latter years, and Iheanacho inconsistent the door is open for a young striker to enter the fray.

However, ‘Gabigol’, as he is known, can also play as a right winger – something Leicester City are crying out for. A prospective signing that would give Rodgers a chance to use narrow strikers maybe, something that all the top sides are now doing.
