During his latest pre-match press conference, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers cast serious doubt over Demarai Gray’s future at the club.

As Leicester City fans await the announcement of Turkish international winger, Cengiz Under, an existing player’s future has been cast into further doubt. Demarai Gray’s fall from predicted grace is all but assured.

Gray is already fighting system changes and multiple players for his place in the Foxes side – or even on the substitute bench. Harvey Barnes’ emergence has thrown the former into increased obscurity; regardless of Barnes certainly needing his own refinement in relation to end product. Then there is Ayoze Perez, along with Marc Albrighton vying for spots in the side.

Whereas any set-up with two wingman suits Gray on either side, the three centre-back formations are sometimes fielded wing-less with two main forwards. Although the forward has played there before, even for Brendan Rodgers, the boss doesn’t favour the Birmingham-born man centrally.

Demarai Gray’s Leicester City future in serious doubt

Compounding Gray’s out-of-favour standing, Rodgers confirmed the player’s unenviable status during his pre-Burnley press conference.

When asked if the athlete has a future on Filbert Way, the Northern Irishman said it is “up to him [Gray]”: in the sense of the wingman continuing his understudy “role” for Leicester. Furthermore, the gaffer explained that the former will have to leave the club to be a starter.
