Could another defender be on his way to Leicester this summer?
Despite being close from confirming the signing of Wesley Fofana, another centre-back could be coming to Leicester City before next week’s deadline.
So far this summer, Leicester City have signed Timothy Castagne, Cengiz Under and have agreed terms with Fofana. With the majority of the transfer window being silent for the Foxes, another incoming could be confirmed before the transfer window slams shut on October 5.
Calls for a centre-back have been the loudest from the club’s fans, with the position being Brendan Rodgers’ number one priority this summer. However, after starting the season in sensational form, winning all three of their games including a commanding 5-2 victory over Manchester City, maybe the defence isn’t as bad as first thought.
Manuel Akanji has been targeted by the Foxes this summer, with the defender dreaming of a move to the Premier League. The Borussia Dortmund player has only been at the German club for two years, after moving from FC Basel for £17 million.
At 25-years-old, Akanji has been an ever-present figure at Signa Iduna Park, starting the opening two games of the season. After a convincing 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach, Akanji was at fault for the opening goal in his side’s 2-0 defeat to Augsburg last week.
However, despite starting in one of the biggest clubs in Germany’s defence, the Swiss international continues to receive criticism for the errors he constantly makes. Earning £70,000-a-week, the Yellows could cash in on their defender.
His ability to cover at right-back will tempt Leicester into a bid, but with the mistakes made in Germany, it would be a tall ask for Rodgers’ side to fork out over £70,000-a-week on a player.
There is yet to be any concrete interest from Leicester for the defender, but with Akanji confirming his desire to play in England, it could on the cards in the future, especially with Wes Morgan and Jonny Evan ageing.
