During Wednesday’s Leicester City press conference, manager Brendan Rodgers explained why Filip Benkovic went on loan despite a defensive crisis.

Brendan Rodgers gave his standard pre-match press conference with Leicester City preparing for the visit of Zorya Luhansk on Thursday, as the Europa League gets underway.

During the presser, the Foxes boss gave updates on his squad’s mounting injuries; stars such as Ricardo Pereira, Caglar Soyuncu, as well as Wilfred Ndidi have been sidelined long-term.

Jonny Evans has also had problems with his health and fitness, which leaves only the youthful Wesley Fofana and veteran Wes Morgan available at centre-back along with the Northern Irishman. Hence the question posed to the gaffer: why was Filip Benkovic allowed to leave amidst a defensive crisis?

Brendan Rodgers’ brutal verdict on Leicester City’s Filip Benkovic

Obviously a club’s fans always want to see a £13 million promising and rated defender be given consecutive chances in the team, especially after multiple injuries and loans. Even from the start of his career on Filbert Way, that stance was the general consensus I heard from the Blue Army.

Naturally we as supporters are not privy to the inner-workings and internal goings on at Leicester City Football Club – yet we are entitled to our own opinions. Just as Rodgers is with regard to Benkovic; the former Liverpool manager was very honest in his assessment of the player:
