If Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers can improve certain elements of his team’s play, he can guide the Foxes to a Premier League title.

Let’s face it, the Premier League is up for grabs amongst six clubs this season, as opposed to other more predictable campaigns. Leicester City are third in the table at the time of writing, thanks to a superbly balanced squad – evidence of which is the backup players standing in to such a great effect – and a world-class manager in Brendan Rodgers.

Manchester City and Liverpool are obviously still clear favourites. That is, despite the champions’ defensive and attacking issues; while the Citizens are only recently finding their devastatingly worrying form, once again.

Other rivals for the crown include a progressively improving Manchester United; however, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur don’t appear to have the momentum, stability or consistency to lift the English top-flight trophy. You can forget about Arsenal, for this year at least.

Before the readers start thinking I’m deluded about the Foxes, I can clarify that I believe either Man City or the Reds – but probably Liverpool, if I am pressed – will most likely win the title. But Leicester are in with a chance, as are the previously mentioned sides – because this campaign is just so peculiar as well as unpredictable.

How Leicester City can win EPL title

Therefore, with some improvements, or more accurately refinement, the east Midlanders would definitely stand a chance. Hey, stranger things have happened – see 2015/16. Incidentally, this writer deems the modern side superior to the one during the only other Leicester EPL triumph.

The main areas Brendan Rodgers must attempt to alter for the good of the outfit, and to gain Champions League qualification at a minimum, are set pieces at both ends of the pitch. Home results have been unsatisfactory in comparison with the incredible away run. Along with rectifying a vacant intensity in the first 25 minutes of the game. In fact, the boss mentioned that last point himself, directly after beating Southampton.

Statistically, Leicester are in eighth position in the defence stakes; this isn’t terrible but obviously it isn’t UCL level form. Although City’s overall output on the attack is fourth top of the division, at home, as said before, the Foxes are suffering. They are ninth in the table for King Power Stadium games, yet still manage 1.44 goals per match.

To reinforce my view that directness and focus are crucial in the early parts of a contest, Leicester are a shocking 18th in the entire league with regard to scoring in the first 15 minutes, that is poor. Nevertheless, the Foxes manage to initially score in half of their outings. These stats come via the excellent Sports Mole.

Free kicks and corners have been a relative disaster for the Northern Irishman this season. Rodgers is determined to stick with an awfully performing hybrid defending system, which has led to his men being fourth worse in the table due to conceding eight at set plays. Scoring from them is just as bad, as they haven’t produced a solitary finish in these scenarios, as per WhoScored.
