Unfortunately for highflying Leicester City, their talismanic striker Jamie Vardy is booked in for an imminent hernia operation.

There is a call from certain Foxes fans  – whom I agree with wholeheartedly – that the club arguably should have already invested in a potential heir to goalscoring hero and record setter, Vardy.

That is not to say finding a successor to a legend and such a productive player is an easy task – without paying an astronomical fee. However, with the 34-year-old now injured while the Premier League’s January transfer window is wide open – questions will be raised again.

Simultaneously, I’m sure the King Power team’s Recruitment department will be inundated with visits from Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers, along with Foxes hierarchy members.

Nevertheless, only on Friday Foxes of Leicester published an article explaining how Rodgers deemed it unlikely that this month’s opportunity for incoming players will be utilised. In other words, the Foxes aren’t making any signings – possibly even with the loss of Vardy to surgery.

What’s next for Leicester City, how long is Jamie Vardy out for?

Rodgers explained at his press conference that the No.9 will undergo an imminent operation on a hernia injury. Sadly, the former England international will be out for a “few weeks”. Below is a quote from the boss on the matter:

"“We’ve been managing him [Vardy] over the past few months. It will help the area repair. He can’t hold it off for much longer, there’s a lot of time [remaining] in the season for him to make an impact.”– Brendan RodgersVia BBC Sport"

Ayoze Perez and Kelechi Iheanacho are going to have to step up for Leicester now! They have, indeed, done so before. Perez may be now deployed as a false nine, or as an out-and-out centre-forward. Iheanacho squandered some easy chances last time out, yet is a proven scorer.
