Leicester City injury woes: who’s in and who’s out
As Foxes fans will be acutely aware, there are several senior players – first team as well – who are definitely ruled out for this fixture, or are yet to find full fitness or return to first team training in a sufficient manner.
Leicester will be without Dennie Praet. The 26-year-old Belgian international was sidelined for at least three months after sustaining muscle damage to his hamstring against Stoke City. The player would have expected to feature in the competition on rotation with James Maddison, now Madders will definitely play most matches.
The Foxes may be without Ayoze Perez after coming under some tension and pain in his last appearance for the club. On a positive note for some fans, this will mean Cengiz Under has an increased likelihood of featuring in this match!
The simply superb future England international James Justin was sidelined for the rest of the season after sustaining ACL damage against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. Luckily, Leicester City have enough depth to cover left-back or wing-back for the immediate future. Luke Thomas, Christian Fuchs, or the registered Shane Flynn could provide cover.
The third member of the Belgian trio – Timothy Castagne – is also a very unlikely player to feature, despite the much needed quality he would bring to that left-back role alongside Ricardo Pereira on the right. He is not yet at full fitness after returning to first team training this week.
Club captain Wes Morgan is suffering from a recurring back problem, and therefore has not been registered for the Europa League squad. The impressive returner Daniel Amartey has taken his place in the squad. The Foxes have plenty of options for centre-back, including the youngster Ben Nelson who has been registered.
The indomitable and fantastic Wesley Fofana remains out injured. He is a few weeks away from returning to first team training. However, as with ‘Big Wes’, there is enough cover for ‘Little Wes’ to be out of the squad.
Leicester City still have a plentiful squad available to them, and enough youngsters also registered with the senior team. Don’t be surprised if Sidnei Tavares or Khanya Leshabela make the bench, and Callum Wright may also feature on the bench. These are promising players if they are called upon.
