Why Slavia Prague apologised to Leicester after inflammatory comments
After offensive and ridiculous comments in a video from the club’s official YouTube account, Slavia Prague’s president apologised to Leicester City before the two clubs meet.
I know: let’s make a ‘humorous’ video before playing one of the most in-form clubs in Europe insulting our opponents in strangely untrue ways, including ‘weight-shaming’ the captain. Giving the opposition further incentive to beat us!
Please excuse the ironic introduction to this piece, but rather than attacking Slavia as a club, its players and Prague, Foxes of Leicester decided to take the satirical route instead.
If you’re unsure what I’m referring to, check out the below tweet about the clip in question. In which, the Czech club’s YouTube account got a ‘presenter’ to criticise Leicester as a general place to live. Then, upsetting the Blue Army no end, basically called Kasper Schmeichel fat. Despite the Dane seemingly in great shape – not to mention being one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
I mean, the stunt wasn’t just ill-advised and stupid – obtaining a reaction was actually their naive intention. With a delicate world presently for many reasons, this sort of pathetic banter is rightly condemned.
Subsequently Cervenobili president Jaroslav Tvrdik ‘apologised’:
"“The games against Leicester will be a special occasion. We approach them with a great respect for the club and its players. We are sorry that some of the opinions put forward could have been interpreted as offensive. It was not our intention. We are looking forward to both games.”Via Daily Mail"
Notice how he still fundamentally doesn’t understand that what was said is uncalled for, untrue and hurtful to some: Tvrdik uses the word “interpreted as”. In other words, they don’t even see the jokes as derogatory or disrespectful. Let’s hope the east Midlands side progress by any means necessary on the pitch!
