Leicester City might sign a new defender this summer and, by default, make Celtic miss out on around £8m in the process of securing Jack Hendry.

Centre-back is not the first position in need of immediate reinforcing this summer. In fact, the Foxes have a great number of more than capable centre-halves.

Some would say that my previous statement is an understatement and that the current trio at Leicester, Caglar Soyuncu, Jonny Evans and Wesley Fofana, are a world-class collective.

Yet there is always room for improvement in any squad; not to mention the need for a deeper roster with hopes high for elite European football in the Champions League next season.

According to our friends at 90min, the King Power side are interested in signing the imposing 25 year old Hendry. Belgian team KV Oostende, where the defender is currently on loan, have an option to buy the player permanently for £2 million.

The publication then intriguingly suggests that Oostende might subsequently sell their asset to one of the many interested English clubs, for around £10m. Hypothetically, this would cost the Scottish side approximately £8m – if they made a prospective sale themselves when the transfer windows reopen.

Invariably some of the LCFC faithful will find this situation satisfying or humorous, to say the least. There has been no love lost between the two sets of fans in recent years; and that tension was heightened by Rodgers’ departure for Leicestershire before the Scottish Premier League season ended.

Certain members of Hoops support wished ill onto the Northern Irishman, while other more measured parts of the Celtic support wondered why Rodgers would leave when he had an opportunity to become immortal in their folklore. Though the boss did not enter mediocrity on Filbert Way, as some of the support north of the border assessed – quite the opposite, actually. Interestingly, the east Midlanders were said to have paid £9m for Rodgers’ services in 2019.
