Maybe it’s time for Leicester to say goodbye to two club legends
Could it be time for Leicester City to finally end some relationships and wave goodbye to two club legends?
I’m sure you know that Wes Morgan’s and Christian Fuchs’ respective contracts expire at this season’s end. You may also be aware that the former is being primed for a coaching role at Leicester; in addition to alternatively, possibly gaining an executive appointment with the Foxes.
Fuchs said he would retire to New York in the United States three years ago; he’ll maybe even attempt to play American Football professionally in that country.
While both have still provided excellent help to youthful team-mates and given the manager support within the Leicester environment along with on-field appearances being acceptable and sometimes exceptional, it feels like their playing careers are probably coming to an end. At LCFC, anyway. It’s not like the wage bill will be much lower, it’s more about evolution.
There must now be a move by City to sign excelling, young back-up personnel, or continue to promote from their brilliant youth set-up. Morgan has been injured for a large part of 2020/21; meanwhile Fuchs has younger, arguably better men in front when all are fit.
Leicester City legend finds team
Another man entrenched in Leicester City Football Club folklore is Danny Simpson; ‘Simmo’ was another element of the title-winning side. Though possibly the least involved member with respect to goals or exciting elements of that fabled team, he did contribute extensively in a defensive capacity as he overtook Ritchie De Laet to become first choice right-back during the Incredibles campaign.
Happily for Simpson he is now back in the game, albeit at a lesser level. Championship outfit Bristol City announced the signing of the ex-Leicester, Queens Park Rangers and Newcastle United man. Nigel Pearson – who previously worked with the athlete at the King Power club – explained that he believes the 34-year-old brings ‘experience’ to the Robins:
"“He [Simpson] offers us experience, know-how and, for someone who is in his 30s now, he still has that appetite to play.“I know Danny well, he’s had an excellent career with his exposure in the Premier League so it’s a real positive to make this addition at this point in the season.”– Nigel PearsonVia Bristol Post"
