It is claimed by a reputable source that Leicester City are likely to pursue Thorgan Hazard for a summer transfer, if the Foxes qualify for the Champions League.

It certainly appears that Cengiz Under hasn’t made the grade at Leicester; Brendan Rodgers definitely doesn’t fancy having the Turk here next season, if speculation is to be believed.

That leaves space for a winger in the squad, as usual. But wait, could the club have possibly, excruciatingly, finally found a realistic Riyad Mahrez replacement? That very well may be.

Thorgan Hazard to Leicester City?

Is global star Eden Hazard’s brother really on Leicester’s wishlist? Yes, he may well be after Eurosport suggested so on Friday. In addition, the publication – which is not known for spreading wild transfer rumours – stated if Rodgers’ team earn Champions League football for 2021/22, then they are “very likely to pursue” Hazard.

While Hazard is right-footed, he fits the skill set and profile set out by the Algerian. Borussia Dortmund’s man usually plays left-sided, though he can also play right and centre, which is ultimately another area LCFC are looking at strengthening.

With the Belgian contingent on Filbert Way growing and certainly influential on the pitch and in the dressing room, adding another Belgium international is a seemingly great idea. Maybe signing the right players from that country is a wise move – maybe Leicester should have eleven of them starting.

But in all seriousness, the acquisitions still have to be quality and suitable; the correct one may even help the quest to keep Youri Tielemans and influence him to stay at King Power Stadium. Especially intriguing is that Hazard is a star in the Bundesliga, yet that is obviously one reason why he won’t join the Foxes – he’s probably happy at Dortmund.

Either way, this upcoming window of opportunity is now the most crucial one in Leicester’s history: excellent displays, signings, prudence, planning and determination have gotten them this far – a great pre-season complemented by accurate buys could see the east Midlanders cement a long-term top-six place.
