The clubs demand to participate in the Super League on the weekdays and continue to be a part of their national leagues. That is an absurd demand straightaway. FIFA has retaliated by proclaiming that any player that takes part in that competition will be banned from international competitions.

The leagues are considering deduction of points, but nothing is enough to unsettle the determined owners of the clubs. If those clubs leave, then yes, we might become the biggest club in the Premier League, we might win titles and now even have a significant shot at UCL competition, but who would enjoy that monotonous series of possibilities Football is fun when there is promotion/relegation involved. There should be consequences of the outcomes of a match. There should be expectations, happiness, and disappointment.

What’s next?

As more reports come in, we tread further from a positive outcome. The Super League needs to be stopped by the fans of their clubs. Maybe that’s the last stand that we need to take. The monopoly needs to be condemned.

The whole fiasco undermines the identity of a supporter. It disrespects the Nation and its pride. It insults the passion of the billions of heartbeats that pound for every goal that our team scores. I hope the idea never comes to fruition, but that looks highly unlikely.
