Leicester City are set to offer a new contract to a veteran Fox as his twilight years approach. Foxes of Leicester explains.

I’ve never understood why a professional, elite athlete would be content to be clearly classified as a number three choice, in any position on a team. And that sentiment especially applies to goalkeepers; even though they are more likely to have a procession of appropriate, or otherwise, candidates in succession for a starting place or role.

Ironically the ‘keepers’ Union’ helps maintain an evident harmony at most clubs; it’s strange because they are battling directly against one another for a role.

The supposed unity comes predominantly from the fact that stoppers mainly train as a unit, when not participating in match-style practice. In addition to “sticking together” in the face of media, pundit and fan criticism. Which is odd, due to the fact that they’re only slammed if they make a calamity James-esque pathetic error.

New Leicester City contract

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers insists on having three senior goalies on his roster; thusly it appears as though Eldin Jakupovic will receive an extended, improved contract at LCFC as his current one expires. It’s not the first time the Foxes have been generous with “influential”, twilight players: see Wes Morgan.

My main concern with this situation is that it effectively means promising up-and-coming goalkeeper Daniel Iverson from the Under-23 set-up – on loan at Preston North End presently – won’t get his chance as No.3 or in the League Cup next season. There is also Danny Ward, surely the best No.2 a team can have. Though he’s possibly not good enough to be a top four Premier League No.1.

Jakupovic, according to The Sun via HITC, will be handed an improved offer with July 2021 his end date at the moment. This comes after Zero appearances for Leicester this campaign; not to mention Kasper Schmeichel and Ward probably remaining as No.1 and No.2. Iverson is expected to go out temporarily once more in 2021/22.
