Kasper Schmeichel recently divulged the inside story of Kelechi Iheanacho’s rise at Leicester City as from the Foxes squad’s point of view.

Is the Nigerian the main man at King Power Stadium now? Don’t write off Jamie Vardy, is my advice. Especially after his brilliant finish with aplomb against West Bromwich Albion on Thursday. Yet Iheanacho did step into the Foxes No.9’s difficult to fill shoes, impossible as that must be, and did the business for Leicester.

Some people, myself sort of included, didn’t expect Iheanacho to maintain his scoring run even for much of last month. Not to mention believing when the former Manchester City attacker was handed the March Player of the Month award, that the accolade may be his highest ever Premier League achievement.

However, Iheanacho’s certainly proven me wrong; a statement I’m always happy to make when I have misjudged a Fox’s prowess. It appears as though PotM and Man of the Match tributes are just the beginning of a possibly wonderfully glittering career. Something which on-field captain of the east Midlands outfit, Kasper Schmeichel, would agree with.

Schmeichel gave an interview last week, in which he was asked about the rapid rise along with lethal goalscoring of the Super Eagles forward:

"“We all saw what he could do in training. He just needed that luck, that decision, or that goal.“We knew he had the ability, we’ve seen it every day since he joined the club. We know the quality he possesses and now the world is seeing it.”– Kasper SchmeichelRead more at Leicester Mercury"

In other Iheanacho news, the Foxes hitman broke his own finishing record in the EPL during the West Brom match. His previously highest season tally was eight in the division, with nine to his name presently this campaign.
