Leicester City have made a young Manchester United defender their first signing of the summer. The move was actually announced by the player’s mother on social media.

Transfer rumours are everywhere at the moment, and are invariably even more prevalent the larger the club is. Essentially that is due to obtaining more readership, or click bait – give it a name – by linking multiple targets to superclubs. That is possibly the one element of supporting a Big Six side that must upset some supporters.

Anyway, gladly Foxes of Leicester is bringing you confirmation of an actual acquisition for the east Midlands side today, Monday. Good news along with potentially getting one over on Man United – if the player turns out to be a decent senior squad member – is a great way to start the week!

Leicester City signing

As you can see above, former Daily Mail Midlands sports expert, Laurie Whitwell, now of trustworthy outlet The Athletic, has confirmed that Iestyn Hughes – an Under-18 with United at present – will sign for the Foxes in the off-season. Iestyn – pronounced “yes-tin” – is also a Wales U-19 youth international, so a fair amount of pedigree is certainly assigned to the attacking right-back who has an eye for a cross.

According to Manchester Evening News, the transfer is set for the end of the season. Hughes has already featured for United’s U23s on occasional; not to mention having a trial game for the Leicester reserves versus West Ham United U23s.

In fact, the switch seems to have been announced by the defender’s mum, Samantha. She said she is delighted for her son and that her and Hughes’ father are proud of their boy, which is nice to hear. You can see her tweet by clicking here, or alternatively use the MEN link above.
