Leicester: More information on Jonny Evans’ warmup injury
Following Leicester City’s loss to Newcastle United, Foxes of Leicester provide some more information on Jonny Evans’ warmup injury.
It was a disastrous hour for the Foxes: first of all stalwart and defensive leader, Evans, took some kind of knock during the pre-match preparations as Leicester readied themselves for the visit of the lowly placed Newcastle.
Then, things got worse as Caglar Soyuncu made a very ill-advised attempted Cruyff-turn with Arsenal-trained Joe Willock behind him – 1-0 to the Magpies. Subsequently, Paul Dummett – yes, really – rose above the usually aerially solid or even dominant Wesley Fofana. 2-0. Eventually the score finished 4-2 to Steve Bruce’s team as the Blue Army suffered through more excruciating play.
Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Why do LCFC keep stumbling at the same hurdles when they’re on the precipice of glory, or ascendancy towards greatness, at least? Right, I’m not gonna lose it yet because this King Power side are capable of getting results against the next trio of Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.
Jonny Evans an injury concern for Leicester City
Unfortunately for everyone concerned with Leicester, Evans was seen on crutches whilst watching the Newcastle game from the stand. According to Daily Mail, it is a recurrence of the heel injury the Northern Ireland international has suffered from recently.
Worrying, the outlet also speculates that Evans may be sidelined for the remaining weeks of the season. They certainly imply that the FA Cup might be a stretch for the player to be fit for. But, at this moment, that is just conjecture and should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Brendan Rodgers spoke about the 33-year-old following Leicester’s awful defeat:
"“We were managing a problem with his heel for the last two weeks. It’s something which he’s been having injections for and got through okay. Just before he finished the warm-up, he was in a lot of discomfort when he came in just before kick-off.“He tried to stretch it out in the changing room, but he was suffering. We’ll just have to wait and see. He’s on crutches at the moment, so that was a massive blow for us. I’ve always said he’s the brain in our defence. Whether we play a back four or a back three, he’s the one that keeps the line up.”Via lcfc.com"
Hopefully there is a positive scan outcome in the next few days as that will be conclusive as to whether the defender is out for long or not. It didn’t look good.
