Has Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers delivered the ultimate footballing insult to Foxes winger and Turkey international Cengiz Under?

Rodgers’ Leicester side went to Old Trafford determined to obtain a result on Tuesday evening. I’m not just typing out the usual cliches either: there was a definite resolve present about the team as they embarked on their first Premier League win at Manchester United‘s ground in 23 years.

Typically the relative triumph wasn’t without its trials, tribulations and a particularly awful nerve racking ending as the east Midlands outfit held on admirably for the crucial three points. And that increase in the season’s haul gives LCFC 66 points overall. Champions League entry is now a very real possibility following the excellent outcome from the collective effort at OT.

Elsewhere, Cengiz Under wouldn’t have been the most delighted man on the night, I assume; I also imagine the loanee from Roma was simultaneously contrastingly happy for his Turkish colleague Caglar Soyuncu’s winning goal. Why Under won’t be content on Filbert Way anymore – if he ever was – is because he was fit and available for selection versus Man United but the boss decided not to choose the winger for his matchday squad.

When asked why Under was omitted from the line-up, Brendan Rodgers was terse in his answer, implying that the player hasn’t been good enough in training:

"“Yes, he wasn’t chosen.”– Brendan Rodgers via Leicester Mercury"

Some athletes in the 23-year-old’s position here would certainly take this scenario as an insult; while others would merely work harder to ensure that they are never overlooked in future. 18 year old Tawanda Maswanhise was on the bench instead.

It is fairly obvious that Rodgers is not enamoured with Under’s work on and off the pitch so expect him to return to Italy soon. Yet I also believe the latter could have been a bit of a star in the EPL: had the wingman received a run in the starting eleven. Although, nobody can argue with the Northern Irishman’s decisions and ultimately his progress at Leicester.
