Leicester boss on injured star: We’re very positive he will play
Anyone who witnessed Leicester City’s defensive meltdown against Newcastle United at King Power Stadium will be well aware that Jonny Evans is integral to a fluently functioning Foxes defence. Therefore, the Blue Army are right to be worried over his potential absence from the FA Cup final against Chelsea.
Sorry to spell it out like that, but in other words: we need Evans! Leicester can beat Chelsea; Leicester can beat Chelsea without the Northern Irish international – though it is a much more difficult prospect if he’s unavailable.
If fortune is smiling on the Foxes, then Evans will be available for selection for the cup final. If Foxes of Leicester had to predict whether he’ll start, then we guess that he will be passed fit; FoL arrived at that expectation after hearing the manager, Brendan Rodgers, talk about his “warrior” at the back.
Most recent Brendan Rodgers quote on injured defender Jonny Evans
In the pre-final interview with press, Rodgers spoke of his countryman and most experienced starting defender’s status ahead of this huge contest:
"“Jonny’s a warrior, so I know if there’s any way he can play, even if he’s not 100 per cent, he’ll be out there.“We’re still very positive he’s going to play… if Jonny’s fit and available to play, it’s a huge boost for us.”– Brendan Rodgers, via lcfc.com"
Late afternoon on Saturday, 5:15pm to be precise, will see the Blues take on the Foxes. Thomas Tuchel’s side are certainly favourites with bookmakers, pundits and most observers. Yet Leicester supporters, and some most neutral fans, understand the fact that it is unwise to dismiss the chances of the east Midlands outfit in any matchup. Hopefully it will be fifth time lucky for LCFC in the oldest English football competition.
