According to a press report, Leicester City could finish fifth in the Premier League but still enter the Champions League – if Chelsea are docked points.

Many of us Foxes fans, still high as kites from our momentous FA Cup victory, were left downhearted by the disappointing loss at Chelsea. If only Ayoze Perez had earned a draw with the fairly simple chance at Stamford Bridge, by his standards, Leicester would own their Champions League fate.

Yet we are where we are; hopes transition to Aston Villa rather than Crystal Palace: the Eagles have a monumental task to beat Liverpool. While the Villans are unlikely to win against Chelsea, they may offer LCFC a last chance for UCL in 2021/22 through drawing. If only the Newcastle United game, among others, was approached with more hunger and organisation by the east Midlanders.

How Leicester City may finish fifth but still qualify for UCL competition

Leicester can defeat Tottenham Hotspur, we know that directly from previous encounters, but Ryan Mason’s team won’t be pushovers. If Brendan Rodgers’ men can muster three points on the final day of the 2020/21 campaign, they at least give themselves a fighting chance against the Reds and the Pensioners in the quest for the most prestigious European tournament in club football.

An element which might perhaps offer the King Power side a chance, even if they finish below Jurgen Klopp’s as well as Thomas Tuchel’s outfits, is the possibility of a points docking for Chelsea. Why the latter are facing a deduction is because of constant misconduct charges. Ironically the most recent incident is actually a touchline fracas with the Foxes. Hypothetically, if a punishment is imposed, LCFC might finish above the Blues.

Mirror writes that the major London side have been ‘in the Premier League dock seven times in as many years’ due to mass indiscipline, to paraphrase. It is unclear when any consequences will be announced from reading the article.
