Why Youri Tielemans would be wise to stay at Leicester City

Essentially, Tielemans is the man at the east Midlands team now: he’s a longtime midfield string-puller who scored the winner in the FA Cup, as well as being named Player and Players’ Player of the Season.

Therefore he is enjoying Jamie Vardy-esque worship from supporters, peers and the hierarchy. He would perhaps be shocked to be inevitably down the pecking order elsewhere – especially at the aforenamed major outfits.

This isn’t to say that Belgian won’t eventually be good enough to succeed at an institution like United and the Blaugrana, he is a marvellous footballer. Though I’m not sure he’s quite ready to make the drastic jump immediately.

Let’s be realistic, he’s not a guaranteed starter with Liverpool, Manchester City or those Super League wannabes at present. If Tielemans does depart Filbert Way, he must face being afforded less playing time. Another campaign with Leicester would hone his skills and hopefully ensure Brendan Rodgers’ team reenter the Champions League.

However, the Blue Army are right to be suspicious of the partially solo lap of honour Tielemans undertook at the final whistle following the Tottenham Hotspur match. He did a fair bit if waving – a goodbye? – and seemed fairly emotional.
