Leicester: Honourable Wes Morgan announces new career plans
Former Leicester City captain, Wes Morgan, has left the King Power club and is pursuing an executive career. One aspect of his ambition is rather admirable.
A skipper who lifts the Championship, Premier League and FA Cup trophy with one club – a smaller outfit than the so-called ‘big six’, too – is always going to be remembered as a great of that team. A club legend. The man I’m describing is of course Jamaican centre-half, Wes Morgan.
Morgan recently retired from on-field professional football, yet may return in another capacity. His leaving the east Midlands side drew a host of tributes on social media, including from his peers and other icons of the game.
Following his departure from LCFC, the 37-year-old spoke of his future aspirations; in addition, he claims that management in his sport is not an interest, presently, but didn’t rule it out further down the line. Morgan mentioned being an ‘executive, in the boardroom’, as per Sky Sports.
Yet the element of the interview which caught Foxes of Leicester’s attention, was the fact that the onetime Nottingham Forest man is honourably intent on ‘enforcing a change around racism and diversity’.
Leicester City transfer news
Elsewhere around the Filbert Way sphere, transfer speculation has gathered pace on a couple of Foxes-linked targets. Ryan Bertrand‘s representatives are apparently in talks with LCFC; meanwhile Boubakary Soumare is said to be on the verge of joining by a number of national media outlets.
FoL’s ringing endorsement of Soumare is that he is a signing who would boost any EPL squad. Hopefully his arrival is not an indication that fellow midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be departing Leicester.
Bertrand is also a better acquisition than some may imagine: the ex-England international and Southampton defender is a fierce competitor. While he may only be used sparingly, I envisage the 31-year-old endearing himself to the Blue Army faithful in no time through talent, determination and commitment.
