A Leicester City defender has had some terrible news as he sustained a horrible injury ruling him out of the Euro2020 tournament after playing one game. Hopefully Timothy Castagne is OK.

Belgium began their Euros competition with a wonderfully controlled and skilfully composed victory over Russia in Group B. The international Red Devils – not to be confused with Manchester United’s identical nickname – are definitely one of the favourites to lift the Henri Delaunay Trophy behind, of course, France.

Leicester have a strong trio representing them in the Belgian squad: with Foxes Player of the Season Youri Tielemans, underrated midfielder Dennis Praet and lastly defender Timothy Castagne making up the contingent. Many other current and former Premier League stars also comprise the roster such as Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.

Leicester City man has to withdraw

Sadly for Castagne he’s featured in his first and last Euro2020 game it appears. That is because the versatile fullback sustained an apparent fractured eye socket whilst competing against the Russians. There is extra information on the Sky Sports website if you require it.

Manager of the eventual winners on the evening, Roberto Martinez, confirmed his athlete would have to withdraw from Belgium’s squad due to the dangerous brake. A tough collision with Daler Kuzyaev, from the team nicknamed ‘Our Guys’, occurred before even the second half in St Petersburg.

"“Really bad news, sad to see Timothy Castagne is going to be out of the tournament.“He’s had images taken, he’s got a double fracture, and now we’ll take the necessary treatment.”Roberto Martinez, via Sky"

Belgium’s next match is against King Power goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel’s Denmark; the Danes suffered a horrific issue as midfield star Christian Eriksen collapsed on-field and was taken to hospital. Thankfully Eriksen is said to now be stable.
